A listing for Gears of War Ultimate was spotted in Gamestop’s computer before promptly being removed. Microsoft has confirmed that the listing is legit so there will likely be an announcement fairly soon since February 15th is the supposed release date. What is so ultimate about this release? Is it simply the first two Gears of War games bundled together with added DLC for $29.99? I think something bigger is afoot. In November IGN posted a rumor about a Kinect enabled Gears of War being unveiled on the Spike Video Game Awards. Many thought they were talking about the third iteration of the franchise that is due in stores next year, but creator Cliffy B took to twitter and dispelled those rumors immediately, saying “No Kinect in Gears of War 3.” That however, did not confirm that there wasn’t a Gears of War with Kinect compatibility in the works. What better way to get the hardcore gamer interested in Kinect than with a deal like this? If this does well it may also pave the way for a patch or outright inclusion of Kinect compatibility in Gears of War 3.
Update: Microsoft has since debunked this rumor. It is in fact a bundle of the first two games with a token included to download all of of the DLC.
