Nintendo showed a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword during Iwata's GDC keynote earlier today- and I have to say it was quite fantastic. It looks like combat will really make you think this time around, forcing you to think about how you attack your enemies instead of just hacking and slashing. If you look closely at the trailer you will see that there is a shield gauge in the the top left corner. Does this mean that your shield takes damage or something else entirely? Also notice that the fairy from the concept art is mapped to the d-pad much like Midna was in Twilight Princess. There is also what looks to be harp mapped to the d-pad at one point in the trailer, which could turn out to be a major element in the game much like the instruments found in other Zelda games. There is another new item equipped during the trailer that looks like a bell, but it could also be a lantern or even the hookshot. The jury is still out who the villain shown in the trailer is- some say it could be Vaati, others say it is a humanoid representation of the gilded sword from Majora's Mask. I say it is someone completely new. In other Zelda related news, Shigeru Miyamoto is supposedly working on something special for Zelda's 25th anniversary- expect to hear more about it during e3.
