Early photos of Microsoft's booth at CES indicate they are planning to announce a product called Avatar Kinect. Building upon the success avatars found in Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures, Avatar Kinect will once again place these digital representations of ourselves in the spotlight. But what type of game is it? My prediction is that it will be similar to Playstation Home, in that it will be a large platform for people to do mundane things like decorate apartments, play minigames and communicate with each other. Remember that rumor back in September about Microsoft buying out Linden Labs, the developer of Second Life? My guess is that this is the fruition of that deal.
Update: The real product is not as ambitious as I had thought. It allows Xbox LIve Gold members to communicate with each other in virtual roundtables using realistic gestures and facial expressions picked up by the Kinect peripheral.
