THQ and Gamestop decided to build hype for the publisher's new game Homefront during GDC by releasing 10,000 red ballons with flyers for the game attached. This move was inspired by a method used by South Korea to send messages of hope to the North. Unfortunately the inclement weather forced most of the balloons to sink quicker than expected, resulting in a good deal of them landing in the San Francisco Bay located a few blocks from where they were released. Environmentalists are understandably upset by this situation- but THQ was quick to assure them that the balloons were made out of 100% bio-degradable materials. Despite this revelation the Californian video game publisher is still sending out a clean-up crew since it would still take a while for the balloons and flyers to completely disappear.
