Rumor has it that Microsoft will soon allow developers to launch their games for free on the Xbox Live service, allowing gamers to pay for added content like weapons and clothing items in micro-transactions. This free-to-play methodology has worked great for developers like Zynga, creators of FarmVille, on Facebook and it looks like Microsoft is now trying to take a piece of the social gaming pie for itself. Expect to hear more about this at e3, if not sooner.
